Forbes. Forbes Expert Panel reveals future tech trends set to take the web by storm

Now more than ever, technology needs to be at the forefront of every business’ strategy. As a Forbes Technology Council member, I was approached by Forbes to give my take on the one tech trend that would revolutionize the web.

The answer was easy: quantum computing.

Quantum computing is a revolutionary technology. Companies are thinking about it in a way that’s similar to how they thought about machine learning a few years ago; that is, “Is it the right time to start using it for my business?” Today, the question is not whether it’s right for companies to consider quantum computing but how they can get involved. The initial use cases will be around optimization.

How quantum computing benefits businesses that rely on the web

Now, let's dive into the sheer power and capabilities of quantum computing, and it's truly a game-changer. While regular computers stick to bits, which can either be 0 or 1, quantum computers introduce us to the magic of quantum bits or qubits. These qubits don't play by the same rules as traditional bits; they can exist in multiple states all at once. This extraordinary feature empowers them to tackle and resolve complex problems at a pace and scale that might seem like science fiction when compared to conventional computing.

As I mentioned earlier, the question today is not whether companies should consider quantum computing but rather how they can get involved. The early use cases of quantum computing are centered around optimization, and this is just the beginning.

Quantum computers hold the potential to conquer challenges that were once considered insurmountable, making them a valuable asset for businesses. They excel in areas like conducting intricate scientific simulations, enhancing cryptography for secure data transmission, accelerating drug discovery processes, and fine-tuning the optimization of complex supply chains. In each of these domains, quantum computing opens up new horizons for innovation and problem-solving, offering a competitive edge to forward-thinking companies.

The impact of quantum computing extends beyond just faster processing. It opens up new avenues for innovation, offering the ability to solve problems that were previously deemed computationally infeasible. Vaclav's insights highlight that businesses are now at a crossroads, evaluating how this technology can be harnessed to their advantage.

The impact of quantum computing on a range of industries, such as finance, healthcare, and cybersecurity, demonstrates its versatility. Businesses venturing into quantum computing stand to greatly enhance their competitiveness by tackling problems with greater efficiency, providing faster solutions, and fostering innovation.

Other Forbes Technology Council members on future tech trends to revolutionize the web

I was far from the only person on the council to have an opinion on this subject. The suggested trends were wide-ranging.

The idea of internet segregation was notable. It involves securing specific sections of the internet based on criteria such as industry or geopolitical factors. For instance, the U.S. Navy utilizes the Non-Classified Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) instead of the public internet to enhance security.

Another expert mentioned 5G technology. This advancement, with speeds up to a hundred times faster than 4G, is expected to revolutionize various applications and services, potentially changing the way we interact with the web.

Voice technology is also gaining momentum, reshaping online search behavior through voice-based commands. Tech experts say this shift is influencing SEO strategies, with voice commands often fetching responses from featured snippets.

One council member brought up natural language processing having a significant impact on web interactions, enabling machines to understand human language and fundamentally altering how we search for information, read product reviews, and engage with marketing strategies.

Apart from these trends, smarter algorithms, increased use of APIs, and the development of Starlink are all contributing to the evolving tech landscape. The decline in the use of cookies is leading to shifts in web applications, and there is a growing emphasis on customer data platforms and the adoption of a multi-cloud approach in today's distributed business environment. The tech world is constantly evolving, presenting new trends and opportunities that will shape the future of the web.
